Long Track Speed Skating
Long-track speed skating, also known simply as speed skating, is the Olympic discipline where competitors are timed while crossing a set distance. It’s a thrilling sport that combines speed, precision, and endurance.
Long-track speed skating takes place on a 400m oval ice track. Skaters race against the clock, aiming for maximum speed. Skaters reach impressive speeds of more than 60 km/h (37 mph). The sport is extremely popular in the Netherlands, where it enjoys a passionate following.
UK Long Track
With no long track rinks in the UK, Long Track training weekends are run in De Uithof, Netherlands. There is easy access from the UK, allowing them to start at 09:30am on Saturday morning and finish at 01:00pm on the Sunday afternoon. This allows people to travel after work or school on the Friday evening and be back in time for work or school on the Monday morning.
